Illegal Immigration

I love the United States of America. We have the greatest people, the greatest culture, and the greatest country in the world. I celebrate the diversity that makes up this country and acknowledge that, with the exception of the American Indian, we were all at one time aliens or are the descendents of aliens. It is who we are, it is what makes our country, it is what makes our country great, and it is what we do. BUT, we do it LEGALLY. Anything else is not only ILLEGAL; it is contrary to everything I believe in, everything which makes up this country, everything which this country is about. That having been said, I must say that Illegal Aliens constitute a major problem for us all.

1. Illegal Aliens are illegal. They broke the law. If we are to continue to be the free democratic society we have always been we must reject them – not reward them.
2. Legal Aliens are welcome. Many hard working, responsible, legal aliens worked for anywhere from 2 to 10 years to get here legally and get that precious green card. They work, they pay taxes, they pay into social security, and they speak English, or at least are trying very hard to learn to do so. You think I’m angry about "illegals" getting a free ride -- just talk to one of the hard working, responsible "legals".
3. Illegal Aliens take jobs away from American Citizens and Legal Aliens. Don’t tell me that they are taking jobs no American or Legal Alien wants. That is a lie. The only reason no one wants these jobs is because the salaries are so low, and the only reason the salaries are so low is because illegal aliens will take them. If we enforce the law against the employment of illegal aliens, the "illegals" go home, salaries for these jobs go up and Americans take these jobs.
4. Illegal Aliens cost us money. Don’t tell me illegal aliens are paying taxes. That is another lie. Well over 90% of "illegals" are paid under the table and they pay no taxes. We just lost that tax money. Of all the illegal aliens who are here, how many ever go to the hospital? How many are treated whether they have money or not? The answer is all. That’s who we are. We are Americans, but don’t tell me it is not money that is coming out of my tax dollar.
5. Illegal Aliens have children. Of course we educate these children – that’s who we are. We are Americans, but don’t tell me it isn’t costing the American Citizen and the Legal Alien to do it. And don’t tell me that the non-English speaking students in a classroom are not holding back the average American student.
6. Illegal Aliens make little or no financial contribution to this country. Just ask one how much of his money he is sending “home”.
7. Border Patrol – To those of you who place your life on the line everyday to keep our borders secure, I’d like to say a big “thank you”. We’re sorry you are under funded and under appreciated. We’re also sorry that Washington panders while you work. You must be even more frustrated than the rest of us.

I'd like to think that last nights arrest of 1000 illegals and 7 executives of IFCO is a step in the right direction. Skeptic that I am, I have to wonder if it is the Bush's administrations way of looking tough in order to get his guest worker program through.

Sorry to say, you may be right. I just watched Chertof and Myers on CSPAN. While the initiatives sound great and they were both impressive, Chertof followed up by saying in the future employers would have the option of working legally through the guest worker program and violating the law and getting punished. How about the 3rd option of just paying a decent wage?
